I suppose that you are a game developer and make games but every time you lose motivation and give up. Since game development is a very complex process, procrastination is normal, Relax!But, In this article I am going to tell you How to finish your game and not take years to do it.
I am a game developer and have been making games since 2018, I have made a lot of mistakes and procrastinated a lot. That's why , I want to help you guys to not repeat these mistakes and actually finish your game.

Below are the top things you should consider when finishing your game.
Testing
The first thing to consider when making your game is Testing and testing. If you are a solo game developer , ask your family members and friends to play your game and give feedback.
Be open to negative criticism of your game and accept it and try to improve your game. Remember nothing is perfect but you can make your game better through play testing.
Polishing
After play testing, fix bugs and errors in your game and polish your game before releasing it on Steam or iTch.io. Polishing includes fixing bugs, post processing and giving your game some final touch.
Optimization
You make a game that dont run, then there is no point in making games. You should know how to optimize a game for different platforms.
Look through your code and make sure it is cleaned , decrease the texture size and play with the graphics of your game. You should know about memory management and other technical terms.
Balancing
Balancing in video games is a bit challenginging. Game development process is very complex. Throughout this journey , maintaining a proper balance between gameplay and story is a tough job and not any game designer can do this.
For example, in a long intense fighting scene bless the player with rewards to avoid boredom.
Content Creation
If you are making a game that has a story , then you should focus more on making content that makes the player return the next day.
Write a unique story, design new mechanics (don't copy them) , add new characters and focus on attention to detail like RockStar does.
Documentation
As I said above, Game development is a complex process even when you are making Flappy Bird.
Nowadays , the trend of writing huge game design documents is gone, and short GDD or one page design documents are getting more popular.
